Bioinformatics and Hardware Group

Bioinformatics and computational biology is the application of computer technology to the management and analysis of biological data. The result is that computers are being used to gather, store, analyze and merge biological data. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary research area that is the interface between the biological and computational sciences. The ultimate goal of bioinformatics is to uncover the wealth of biological information hidden in the mass of data and obtain a clearer insight into the fundamental biology of organisms. This new knowledge could perform quite an impacts on fields as human health, the environment and biotechnology.

Ongoing research in our group focuses on the following topics:

relational databases developed for mass data from investigations in human papilomavirus and the epigenetic information in oncogenensis
molecular modeling of some biological active compound interactions with biological structures at the level of cell membrane
development simulation of an epidemic process using cellular automata.
